Staffed with medically trained and licensed aestheticians with over ten years of experience, Blackledge Face Center performs many different medically specialized skin care treatments including:

Comprehensive First Facial

During your initial visit with the skin care department at Blackledge Face Center, you will receive both a comprehensive skin care analysis, a deep cleaning and rehydrating facial and then a personalized protocol for your skin treatment plan. Our estheticians have over 75 years of combined skin care experience in dealing with skin of all types and problems. We realize that you have entrusted us with your face, and so we will do everything necessary to ensure that your experience is rewarding and goal-oriented.

During your facial, you may expect to have your makeup removed using a gentle cleanser and your skin will be examined under a Woods lamp to determine your extent of oil production and accumulation and to assess your sun damage. Each step during your facial will be explained to you so that you become an integral part of your treatment.

Once the “discovery” part of your facial is complete, we will begin the treatment phase which may include extractions of clogged pores, micro peels, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning or customized peels. We use a very graduated approach so as not to overwhelm you or your skin. Our philosophy is that our patients become skin care patients for life, which means are entering a marathon with you as your skincare partner.

At the conclusion of your facial, our aestheticians will review their findings, and then give you a treatment plan that may include follow up treatments and make suggestions for products to improve your skin. We carry six different lines of products and will pull from each line to personalize your skincare.

Dermaplane

This innovative technique has increased in popularity over the course of the past ten years. A gentle scraping that removes the fine facial hair and uppermost layer of skin allows the underlying layers of smooth, clear, undamaged skin to emerge, lessening the appearance of fine lines and brown spots.

The results of dermaplaning are immediate and give the skin a smooth appearance. Dermaplaning may be performed in conjunction with some of our chemical peels as well so that the peel is applied more evenly. For patients wanting a quick fix, dermaplaning is one our most popular treatments.

Micropeel

An exfoliation procedure involving a physical and chemical means to improve the overall look and feel of the skin. This procedure evens out skin texture and softens fine lines and wrinkles. For desired results, a series of treatments is recommended.

Custom Peel

A topical application that is individualized to meet your skin care needs. This procedure gently and effectively polishes the skin’s surface to reduce the depth of surface lines, smooth rough skin texture, and promote even skin color.

Microdermabrasion

A painless procedure that exfoliates and rejuvenates skin. This highly effective and clinically proven technique uses a specialized machine tip to gently remove dead skin while vacuuming the pores resulting in a smoother texture, a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and wrinkles. It also promotes better penetration of skincare products. Best results come with repeat treatments.

Hydrafacial

It is a new type of facial that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates. It actually infuses antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid into the skin. It is a non-invasive procedure with immediate results and no downtime or discomfort.

Acne

From acne related to puberty associated changes to adult acne and rosacea acne, our estheticians and Dr. Blackledge will formulate a comprehensive treatment plan to both treat active acne, minimize previous acne scars and prevent further breakouts.

The armamentarium used for treating acne is grown significantly with topical rinses, retinoids, antibiotics, light and laser treatments leading the way.   During your visit, your esthetician will help you find the cause of your acne, whether it be hormone changes, medications or even just clogged pores and then will work with you in formulating a treatment plan.

Some of the treatment options for acne include microdermabrasion which is a superficial skin polishing procedure used to remove oily skin pores, diminish previous scars and improve the texture of the skin.

A customized skin peel will likely also be formulated for your acne. Depending on the type of acne (whether it be mild, cystic or adult) a peel will be selected to start to control the cause of your acne. Salicylic acid peels work well on just about all types of acne.

Customized Medical Topical Skin Care – A combination of topical retinoids which are used to improve skin cell turnover, a topical antibiotic to control underlying infections in the skin, cleansers that are careful not to over dry your skin, serums used to control inflammation and antioxidants to improve scarring will be discussed with you during your consultation.

Laser Skin Tightening – In some cases in which previous acne has already scarred the skin or indentations in the skin, laser may be used to tighten and realign the collagen under scar tissue. This stimulation of growth in the collagen produces healthy collagen that fills in depressions and scars.

Medical Facials – The estheticians have developed an acne facial specific for acne prone skin. It focuses on the cause of the overproduction of oil, works to unclog pores, extrats existing pores, and cleanses the skin to stimulate a healthy environment for new fresher skin.

Medical Injectables – A combination of any of the fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane may be used to inject into acne scars to plump the skin giving the skin a more healthy, even appearance.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are an effective way to attain smoother, softer skin by delicately removing the older top layers of skin, making way for more youthful surface skin. There are many products available for resurfacing and peeling the skin from light peels such as salicylic acid to deep chemical peels such as trichloroacetic acid. Our estheticians are trained in evaluating your skin, recommending chemical peel strengths that are both safe and effective in polishing your skin. The goal of any chemical peel is to safely remove a uniform thickness of the surface of akin so that newer collagen forms in the lower levels of skin, thereby giving a more plump skin without the fine lines and wrinkles.

Light “lunch time” Peels

Lactic Micropeel – Lactic peels are ideal for dry skin as it not only freshens the skin, but also moistens the skin. Sensitive skins such as rosacea prone skin are also ideal for lactic acid treatments. Resulting skin is more even in tone and has a glow. A series of peels is often recommended with this treatment.

Glycolic Micropeel – This superficial peel is an alpha hydroxy acid peel derived from sugar cane that is gentle but effective in smoothing the skin. It does not leave the skin irritated, opens blocked pores and works great on oily skin, acne prone skin and sun damaged skin. It works to reduct the appearance of fine lines while visibly improving skin color, tone and texture.

Salicylic Micropeel – This treatment exfoliates oily skin, removing clogged pores and pimples. This peel works wonders for acne prone skin by reducing pore size and improving the skin’s texture.

Medium Depth Peels

Jessner’s Peel – This customized peel is a solution of both beta and alpha hydroxy acid. Because it penetrates the skin to a deeper level than the lunch time peels, the results are a much smoother outer layer of skin with eveness of skin tones. It is also beneficial at unclogging pores and improving acne skin. The peel may also be used on aged and sun damaged skin to attain more youthful skin.

VI Peel – One of the latest in chemical peels produces amazing results without pain and keeps downtime at a minimum. It improves tone, texture and clarity of the skin while reducing age spots, freckles and hyperpigmentation.

Custon Peel – A topical application that is individualized to meet your skin care needs. This procedure gently and effectively polishes the skin’s surface to reduce the depth of surface lines, smooth rough skin texture and promote even skin color.

TCA (Trichloroacetic acid) Peel – TCA peels come in varying concentrations depending on the skin type and conditions to be treated. Common concentrations include 10, 20 and 30% with the higher concentrations reserved for more problematic skin. TCA peels are reserved for patients who desire significant improvement in fine lines and rhytids as well as patients with severe sun damage and pigmentation issues.

SkinMedica Illuminize Peel – This peel is a customized peel that provides radiant, vibrant skin with virtually no downtime. The peel is painless and the effects are present within 2 to 3 days.

SkinMedica Vitalize Peel – This SkinMedica peel is a stronger customized peel than the Illuminize peel and is most popular among patient preparing for an upcoming event. The skin has a healthy glow after the peel along with a subtle amount of swelling that temporarily fills in fine lines.

SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel – The strongest of the three SkinMedica peels, these results take about a week to be complete and last up to 3 to 4 months. Patients often schedule a series of three of these peels over the course of a year to get the maximimum results.

Deep Peels

Baker Phenol Peel – This peel has been the gold standard for peels for over 50 years. Using a combination of phenol and croton oil, the peel functions almost like a chemical burn with the recovery phase lasting 1 week and skin pinkness being present for up to 6 months. The results however are remarkable in that the deepest of lines may be erased, and the results last up to 10 years. Dr. Blackledge performs all Baker Phenol peels in the Center.
