Botox injections can treat a variety of medical conditions including wrinkles on the forehead, brows, lips, and eyes. It can also treat sagging skin in the lower face and neck, excessive sweating in the armpits, and migraines. Botox works by temporarily reducing muscle activity under your skin, which causes you to stop repeatedly wrinkling or furrowing your skin.

Dr. Blackledge will determine how many units of Botox injections you need for your first and subsequent treatments. Each in-office treatment session with KYBELLA™ is typically 15-20 minutes. When injected into subcutaneous fat, KYBELLA™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA™, re-treatment is not expected.

18. What is Dysport?

Dysport is a FDA approved injection for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. It is derived from the cosmetic form of Botulinium Toxin, a highly purified protein from a family of naturally occurring muscle-relaxing compounds. Dysport, in a similar fashion to Botox, temporarily relaxes the underlying muscles responsible for facial expression. These repetitive facial expressions can lead to the development of facial folds and wrinkles.

Dr. Blackledge performs Dysport treatments to primarily diminish or reduce the lines and wrinkles in the forehead, glabella (area between the eyebrows), crow’s feet (area surrounding the eyes), vertical lip lines, and chin. The overall result is a less tired, more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. The good news is that Dysport is less costly than Botox, so you will save on your treatments.

Patients see immediate improvement with Restylane.  The results depend on what part of the face is treated.  Restylane in the lips usually lasts an average of 6 – 8 months while Restylane in the nasolabial folds and in the tear trough region lasts up to 10 months.  The length of time that the filler lasts depends on how much muscle and skin movement there is in the area treated.  For instance, in the lips, where the mouth moves often, the Restylane is absorbed much quicker than in area like a scar that does not undergo much motion.

25. How Much Restylane Will I Need?

Restylane is really effective at diminishing fine lines, wrinkles and folds around the mouth and lips as well as those under the eyes.  One of the most popular areas that Restylane is in the lips to give more volume.  With aging, the lips lose volume and fine lines and wrinkles.  In other patients, they may simply be born with thin lips.  In either case, Restylane has become one of the most popular lip fillers on the market.  The amount needed is dependent on how much volume is restored.  Dr. Blackledge likes to start with one syringe to get conservative improvement and then add on subsequent visits if the patient wants more correction.

26. What are the Side Effects of Restylane?

The most common side effect with Restylane is redness and swelling which is mild and subsides in one to two days.  There is no need for allergy testing with Restylane as it is composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar found in our bodies.  Therefore, it is highly unlikely that patients will have an allergic reaction to Restylane.  Occasionally, patients will have mild bruising at the injection site that is easily camouflaged with correction makeup.

30. How long will my Radiesse last?

Radiesse gives correction to the nasolabial folds, the cheek areas, and the areas under the eyes.  The loss of midface volume is one of the hallmarks of facial aging and can lead to an appearance of being aged.  In the past, we had addressed this with surgeries to tighten the face.  More recently, we have begun using volumizing fillers to restore volume and provide a similar lift without surgery.  Radiesse is an ideal filler to replenish this lost volume in the cheeks.  Since it is composed of calcium hydroxyapatite, it integrates well with the cheekbones.  It tends to last up to 2 years in the cheek areas.

31. How Much Radiesse Will I Need?

Radiesse is a dermal filler that is made of calcium based particles suspended in a water gel.  It’s correction is very dependable and predictable and is a great choice for facial contouring and correcting facial asymmetries.  In achieving these corrections, Dr. Blackledge believes that it is very important to be conservative so that the patient has a very natural look.  Dr. Blackledge starts with one syringe of Radiesse and then adds in subsequent visits if that patient feels like he or she needs more correction.
